Description

Jack Gretch arrives at a modest boardinghouse with a car full of boxes, a head full of theories, and no patience for interference. Determined to work alone, the young, red-haired inventor retreats to his rented room, where hammering, strange machinery, and a steadily repeating “whiskaboom” soon become part of the household’s daily rhythm. His landladies are wary of his secret experiment, but their concern grows when Jack neglects meals, falls ill, and refuses to stop working.

Told with warmth and a dry comic touch, this science-fiction tale follows an absent-minded enthusiast whose devotion to discovery may be outpacing his good sense. As the kindly Burroughses try to care for their eccentric boarder, questions gather around the contraption upstairs: What is Jack building, why has he worked toward it for so long, and would his hero Einstein approve? For listeners who enjoy inventive ideas, homely characters, and a touch of scientific mischief, Jack’s experiment promises trouble in wonderfully unexpected forms.
