Description

Two astronauts touch down on a silent, windswept desert that should be the red plains of Mars. Their ship settles like a giant metallic spider, and the men—still in their suits—step onto the alien soil, breathless with the thrill of being the first humans to set foot on another world. The quiet is shattered when a distant, raucous military band erupts, its brass and drums marching across the dunes toward them. A procession of people in bright banners, children laughing, and a jovial leader approaches, shouting a warm, familiar welcome.

The scene quickly turns from awe to bewilderment as the strangers speak English and wave flags that look strangely like those from home. The astronauts’ excitement gives way to a creeping sense that something is not quite as it seems, prompting them to question whether they have truly landed on Mars—or on a place far more familiar than they ever imagined.
