UNSPECIALIST
Banner and his co‑pilot Harcraft are seasoned patrol officers, used to navigating the quiet stretches of deep‑space. When a routine freight run turns absurd—delivering millions of tons of tractor fuel and potato fertilizer to a remote farm world—their frustration turns into dark humor. The mission, assigned by a faceless command, forces them to confront the gap between military precision and the chaotic reality of interstellar logistics.
Complicating matters is Arnold, the so‑called “Bean Brain,” a passenger who occupies the same rank as the ship’s commander yet has no defined duties. His presence is a bureaucratic joke, a random experiment that leaves the crew uneasy and the ship’s atmosphere charged with nervous jokes and whispered theories. As they prepare to launch, the trio must learn to work together, questioning what it means to be a “specialist” when the universe throws them a puzzling, untrained companion.

A science fiction writer with a taste for sharp ideas and practical imagination, he also lived a remarkably varied life outside fiction. His stories mix classic genre curiosity with the perspective of someone who had seen war, art, business, and technology up close.
