Description

A sturdy seventeen‑year‑old carpenter wanders home after a long day of work, his basket of tools slung over his shoulder and a restless melody bubbling from his lips. Joseph Adams carries the easy confidence of a strong body, but it’s the music in his soul that marks him as different—a spontaneous whistle that blends familiar schoolyard airs with strange, improvisational turns. The quiet country town he knows is bathed in the soft glow of gas lamps and the scent of damp leaves, inviting him to pause and feel the world’s simple rhythms.

When Joseph reaches the market square he stumbles upon a small crowd gathered around a frail old man, his meager possessions the target of a rowdy group of youths. Instinctively, Joseph steps in, his sense of fairness and his instinct to protect the vulnerable flashing against the crude cruelty before him. The episode sets the stage for a deeper exploration of the two paths his life might follow: one of bold, compassionate action, the other of quieter resignation. Listeners will follow Joseph as he wrestles with these choices, discovering how the young carpenter’s decisions shape his character and his future.
