Description

A quiet, autumn‑laden countryside unfolds around a young boy perched on a field stile, his pocket full of stones and his mind full of observation. The landscape is a patchwork of harvested fields, humble farmsteads, and the looming silhouette of Trevlyn Hold, a once‑stately mansion now under new ownership. Through the boy’s keen eyes we glimpse the stark contrast between the modest village of Barbrook and the nearby coal‑filled hills, setting a tone of both tranquility and underlying tension.

When a frightened girl rushes past, bearing news of her dying father, a sudden clash erupts between two local youths—George Ryle, quick‑witted and protective, and the brash, reluctant bully Cris Chattaway. Their confrontation hints at deeper rivalries and the fragile balance of power in this close‑knit community. As loyalties are tested and secrets stir, listeners are drawn into a world where the simple rhythms of harvest life mask the complexities of family, pride, and emerging adulthood.
