Pete Moore finds himself on a bustling boardwalk, the scent of popcorn and carnival lights swirling around a faded “Ride the Rocket! Twice around the universe for 25¢” sign. His wife Glory, bright‑eyed and full of jokes, convinces him to step into a rickety metal bullet that promises a glimpse of the heavens. As the rails hum and the painted clouds part, they clutch each other’s hands, surrounded by papier‑mâché planets and a looming yellow moon that feels almost real.
Beyond the midway’s glitter, Pete wrestles with homesick memories of desert skies and a yearning to bring something new back to a weary world. Glory’s daring optimism fuels his resolve, hinting at a larger quest that could change more than just their lives. As the contraption winds toward its next circuit, the promise of a genuine frontier looms just beyond the carnival’s glitter.
