Compiled by the Marine Corps’ Historical Division soon after the armistice, this concise history aims to inform both service members and the public about the Corps’ contributions during the Great War. Relying on official records, it offers a factual overview supported by tables and footnotes that detail manpower, recruitment, and organizational changes without editorial comment.
The book follows the Corps from a pre‑war strength of just over thirteen thousand to an expanded force of more than seventy‑five thousand, including reserves. It chronicles overseas deployments, training in the United States and Europe, and the actions of the Fourth and Fifth Brigades in battles such as Verdun, the Aisne, Soissons, St. Mihiel and the Meuse‑Argonne, while also covering aviation statistics, reserve organization, and the home‑coming parades that marked demobilization.
