Description

In the perpetual twilight of Mercury’s narrow habitable strip, veteran explorer Cappy Upjohn leads the younger Terry Hall through a forest of phosphorescent ferns that sway like living walls. The alien landscape is a hostile blend of scorching heat and freezing cold, forcing the pair to stay constantly alert as they navigate the alien terrain. Their uneasy partnership is tested by the eerie silence broken only by the howl of wind and the faint, unsettling feeling that something is watching their thoughts.

When a strange, simian‑faced creature steps into view, Terry experiences a sudden, painless jolt of mental contact that leaves both men stunned. The being, capable of reading and speaking directly into their minds, introduces itself as Chomby, blurring the line between predator and curiosity. As the explorers grapple with fear and fascination, they must decide whether to confront this intelligent life form or retreat from the unknown.
