The Sad Shepherd - I - DARKNESS
In a stark winter landscape where snow‑covered valleys gleam like feathers and ancient pools stare up at a cold moon, a lone shepherd trudges through ragged rock ridges. His flock—weather‑worn sheep and mischievous black goats— follows him in a quiet procession, while the shepherd’s plaintive pipe weaves a melancholy tune through the night. Dressed in tattered, once‑splendid robes and carrying a battered cedar staff, he appears as a faded fragment of a forgotten court, wandering far from any comfort.
When three shadowy men ambush him, demanding a golden collar that never existed, the shepherd meets danger with a weary smile and a sighing melody. Rather than fighting, he lets the robbers go, allowing the night to swallow their curses, and turns his attention back to the trembling herd. As the cold wind carries his mournful notes, the story hints at a quiet, hopeful journey that may yet bring light to the darkest night—an unexpected Christmas promise.
