Description

In a quiet, lamplit study, a weary scholar spends a restless night turning over ancient tomes, his thoughts haunted by the loss of a beloved Lenore. The clock strikes midnight and a sudden, ominous tapping at his door shatters the silence, drawing his attention to a mysterious visitor perched upon the bust of Pallas.

The dark-feathered raven, solemn and unblinking, repeats a single, haunting word that reverberates through the room. As the narrator pleads for comfort and meaning, the bird’s relentless refrain deepens his sense of melancholy and obsession, turning the simple encounter into a profound meditation on grief, memory, and the inexorable pull of the unknown.

Edgar Allan Poe

Edgar Allan Poe

1809–1849

A master of the macabre, he helped shape the modern detective story while giving classic horror its eerie, intimate voice. His poems and tales still feel vivid today, from "The Raven" to stories of obsession, guilt, and fear.
