Description

A weather‑beaten couple stakes their claim along the Wolverine stream, dragging a team of oxen through lava‑rock valleys and sage‑covered plains. Marthy, hard‑spoken and relentless, drives the wagon while her husband Jase lags behind, reluctant to leave the small green pocket they first find. Their perseverance turns a hidden cove into a modest homestead, a place where every sunrise is earned through sweat and stubborn determination.

Into this raw landscape comes Billy Louise, a ten‑year‑old with a pink sunbonnet and a voice that cuts straight to the heart of things. She watches her mother bake cookies, learns the rhythm of ranch work, and measures the world by the harsh yet beautiful surroundings of Idaho’s hills. Her keen eyes and quick wit promise a life as vivid and challenging as the rugged land that raised her.
