Description

The story opens on a glittering night in 1770 Paris, as the Duc de Choiseul’s ball prepares the court for the highly anticipated presentation of the Comtesse Dubarry. Versailles hums with rumor and rivalry: the king’s indulgent lover, Madame Dubarry, and the shrewd minister Choiseul each vie for influence, while courtiers whisper with equal parts envy and hatred. Amid the opulent torches and rustling silk, the stakes of courtly ambition are laid bare, promising a clash of personalities as fierce as the politics they serve.

Desperate to secure her place among the nobility, Dubarry’s brother, the Vicomte Jean, devises a daring plan. He summons the distant Comtesse de Béarn—a proud, impoverished lady of the old régime—to act as a sponsor, hoping bribery and intrigue will tip the balance. As carriages stream into the Hôtel de Choiseul and the city’s streets glow with anticipation, the stage is set for a dramatic night where fortunes may rise or fall with a single presentation.
