Description

A group of spirited siblings—Robert, Cyril, Anthea and Jane—spend a rainy November day debating fireworks, schoolyard grudges and the price of a simple trinket. Their quarrels lead them to move a tea‑tray over a mysterious hole in the carpet, and while they’re busy testing pyrotechnics, they unwittingly uncover something far more extraordinary. The hurried rummage reveals a threadbare piece of fabric that seems to glow with a quiet, restless energy, hinting at a secret that has been waiting for the right hands.

When the children finally lay eyes on the hidden treasure, the ordinary world of school and chores gives way to whispered wishes and the promise of far‑off lands. The carpet’s quiet hum suggests it can transport its owners anywhere they imagine, while a sudden flash of feathers promises a companion of mythic fire. As the first adventure begins, the siblings must learn to trust each other and the strange new magic that has slipped into their lives, setting the stage for a series of wondrous journeys.
