Description

In the quiet outskirts of a fortified 17th‑century town along the Scheldt, a once‑bright cottage now wears the wear of neglect. Its orange façade, green shutters, and blue‑white tiled roof have faded, and a shallow moat circles the modest garden. Inside, the rooms are small and orderly, the kitchen a stark contrast to the sealed parlour that has lain untouched for years, hinting at secrets long forgotten.

Within these walls, a weary mother clings to the fading hope of her son’s return, while Philip, a bold and restless youth, dreams of a life beyond the crumbling walls. He is torn between his mother’s desperate pleas and the promise of adventure offered by his uncle’s ship. Their uneasy dialogue sets the stage for a tale of familial duty, longing, and the pull of the unknown sea that lies just beyond the horizon.
