THE PARASITE - A Story
THE PARASITE - I
A spring afternoon finds Professor Gilroy gazing from his laboratory window at a chestnut tree bursting with fresh buds, his mind humming with the orderly rhythms of physiology. He admires his colleague, the indefatigable Dr. Wilson, whose restless curiosity drives him to explore the hidden frontiers of the mind, even as Gilroy clings to measurable fact and dismisses the “nebulous semi‑science” that surrounds it. Their friendship is a study in contrast: Gilroy, a disciplined materialist, and Wilson, a fervent believer in the unseen forces that might one day reshape science.
When Wilson invites Gilroy to an evening gathering, the professor reluctantly agrees, aware that the night will showcase a mesmerist or clairvoyant that Wilson hopes will prove his theories. Gilroy’s partner, Agatha, is drawn to the mysterious display, while he feels a growing unease at being pulled into a world that contradicts his empirical foundations. The stage is set for a clash of reason and intrigue, hinting at discoveries that could challenge everything Gilroy holds dear.
