Description

A weary schoolmaster, Marcus Ordeyne has spent years trapped in the monotony of classroom life, his days marked by endless equations and the contempt of his pupils. When a sudden, tragic loss wipes out three generations of his family, the news forces him to confront the emptiness of his position and finally hand in his resignation. The act of walking away feels like a liberation, a chance to step out of the oppressive walls that have defined him for so long.

Unexpectedly, the disaster also reveals a hidden inheritance: a title and a modest fortune that thrust him into a world of unexpected privilege. Suddenly free from his former captivity, Marcus embarks on a journey that takes him far from the schoolroom, first to Verona, where he begins to record the strange twists of his newfound life. The novel blends sharp wit with gentle self‑reflection, inviting listeners to follow a man who discovers that freedom can be both a blessing and a bewildering new adventure.
