Description

A lone wanderer trudges across the barren Hellas Desert, his only companion the faint hiss of a dying life‑support suit. Branded as a traitor for championing the lost democratic ideals of the old Martian city‑states, he is condemned to be shot on sight—yet the Imperial authorities won’t execute him directly. With oxygen dwindling and no rescue on the horizon, he must rely on his wits and the harsh landscape to buy a few precious minutes of life.

He spots a distant private dome, a potential sanctuary, but it lies miles away across a sprawling green canal of low‑lying plants. The clock on his suit ticks down, forcing him to choose between a desperate gamble—breaking into a towering canal cactus that might hold enough air for survival—and the relentless march toward an uncertain fate. The story captures the stark beauty of a Martian wilderness and the relentless drive of a man who refuses to surrender, even when the odds are stacked against him.
