Description

A midnight trek through pine‑filled valleys brings a small Union detachment to the foot of a massive, unscalable rock that dominates the landscape like a natural fortress. Led by the enigmatic guide Andy Zachary, the soldiers—young Philip Welton, seasoned Corporal Bromley, and Lieutenant Coleman—set up a temporary camp in a deserted log cabin while they plot a daring ascent to a hidden colony perched on the summit. The moonlight paints the granite face in stark black and white, hinting at both the beauty and the peril that await those who dare to climb it.

Within the cramped cabin, the men exchange stories and hopes, revealing Welton’s orphaned past, Bromley’s reluctant college departure, and the quiet tension between duty and survival. As the fire crackles and the wind whistles through the pines, the group prepares for a night‑long watch, aware that any misstep could send them tumbling into the valley below. Their resolve is tested by the mountain’s imposing silence, promising an adventure that will define their courage and loyalty.
