Description

In the sun‑baked outpost of Barrawong, a fledgling goldfield town buzzing with ten thousand hopefuls, Commissioner Arnold Banneret balances the weight of public duty with the strain of a modest household. His days are filled with endless paperwork, a dwindling bank account, and the constant pressure of keeping the mines honest. Yet despite the clang of pickaxes and the bustle of the streets, an unexpected loneliness settles over the barracks as night approaches.

One evening, a gaunt, half‑starved wanderer named Jack Waters stumbles into Banner’s path, his eyes hollow and his story half‑told. Waters claims to have stumbled upon a matter that could change the fortunes of both men, urging the commissioner to a quiet corner of the local tavern for a confidential discussion. Intrigue mingles with the harsh realities of frontier life, promising a tale of hidden schemes, loyalty, and the thin line between survival and ruin.
