Part 1
On the barren, wind‑scoured plains of Mars, two geiger‑corps technicians trudge onward, their oxygen masks hissing in the thin air. Ron and his partner Val have been sent to locate the planet’s hidden uranium, a lifeline for a starving Earth, but the endless red dunes and relentless equipment failures wear down even the most steadfast. Their banter masks a deeper strain—Val’s fatigue is palpable, her confidence slipping as the geiger clicks grow faint, while Ron clings to the promise that their sacrifice matters.
As the day drags into night, the pair finally halts, the harsh landscape stretching out like an endless maze. Ron lowers himself beside a sleeping Val, the soft glow of the instrument panel the only comfort in the alien silence. In that fragile pause, the weight of their mission and the looming threat of a mad genius who vows “Death to all Terrans!” linger, reminding them that perseverance may be the only thing that keeps hope alive on this unforgiving world.
