Description

Set against the moonlit gardens of Damascus in 850 B.C., the play opens with fragrant oleanders and a looming statue of the god Rimmon. The opulent palace terraces hum with music, while political and religious forces stir beneath the surface.

At the heart of the scene is Tsarpi, a striking lady of the house, who awaits a mysterious visitor with a blend of impatience and calculation. She is soon confronted by Rezon, the high priest of the House of Rimmon, whose arrival brings ominous vows of retribution against Naaman, a beloved captain who challenges both king and priest. Their exchange reveals a tangled web of love, loyalty, and the clash between personal ambition and the ancient cult.

As the night deepens, the audience senses the stakes rising—personal desire collides with the weight of prophecy, and the fate of Damascus hangs in the balance. The first act sets the stage for a dramatic struggle where devotion, power, and betrayal will intertwine.
