Description

A noisy steamboat clatters toward an unfamiliar shore, and the spirited Irishwoman Eveleen Ambrose finds herself tangled in a tangle of propriety, panic, and stubborn humor. Her husband, the blunt‑spoken Richard, tries to keep order while she battles seasickness, a mischievous shawl, and a stranger who insists that women have no business on this river journey. Their banter reveals a marriage built on equal parts affection and rivalry, setting the tone for a comic adventure that teeters between the absurd and the sincere.

As the vessel finally drops anchor at the muddy mouth of Khemistan, the passengers must scramble from the unsteady deck into fragile canoes, all while the tide rises and the landscape unfolds in bleak but fascinating shades. The opening chapter invites listeners into a world where colonial ambition collides with personal obstinacy, promising a voyage filled with witty dialogue, cultural clashes, and the ever‑present hope of reaching solid ground.
