The Demi-Urge
Transcriber’s note:
the Demi-Urge
An alien survey team arrives on Earth and discovers a civilization unlike anything recorded in the galaxy. To Dira IV, humanity appears enslaved by its own machines—strange, autonomous beings that inspire terror, dependence, and an unsettling urge to surrender. The recommendation is urgent: the machines must be destroyed before Earth’s inhabitants lose their chance at freedom.
Miro CIX, the investigator assigned to study this mechanical “plague,” reaches a radically different conclusion. He argues that the machines are weak, mortal, and incapable of threatening the Empire’s power; the true danger lies in what their existence reveals about intelligence, life, and the assumptions holding galactic society together.
Told through reports and competing testimonies, this provocative science-fiction tale turns a familiar idea upside down. As the explorers debate who is enslaved and who is alive, Earth becomes the setting for a deeper inquiry into creation, evolution, and the possibility that an entire galaxy has misunderstood its own origins.
