Description

Winn Staines is a scion of a chaotic aristocratic household, where respect for duty and decorum is more a scholarly exercise than a lived reality. Born into a family of twelve children, he quickly distinguished himself with a fierce temper, a muscular presence, and a penchant for trouble that sent him from the halls of Sandhurst to the battle‑scarred fields of South Africa. His early career is marked by daring exploits, a Distinguished Service Order, and a harrowing two‑year trek into the heart of West Africa where only a fraction of his companions survived.

Back home, the Staines family’s tangled loyalties and sharp tongues shape Winn’s restless spirit, while his marriage introduces a new, uneasy chapter in his life. As he navigates the expectations of a demanding mother, a indifferent father, and a brood of siblings who oscillate between rivalry and camaraderie, his reckless bravado begins to clash with the consequences of his past deeds. Listeners are drawn into a world where honor, violence, and the pull of far‑flung adventures intertwine, setting the stage for the tumultuous path that lies ahead.
