Description

A determined party of European travelers sets out on a daring winter crossing of the Alpine passes, trading the comfort of railroads for the rugged challenge of sledding through fresh snow. Their journey begins at a tiny inn near Brieg, where relentless avalanches and deep drifts test both resolve and resourcefulness. As they bundle into crude sleds pulled by a single horse each, the stark, white‑capped landscape becomes a backdrop for quiet camaraderie and uneasy anticipation.

The narrator, keen to introduce each member of the group, frames the expedition as both a physical and social adventure. Amid the howling wind and towering peaks, personalities emerge—some steadfast, others uneasy—hinting at the complex dynamics that will shape their trek. Early obstacles and the promise of a distant Alpine town set the stage for a tale of perseverance, cultural encounter, and the unexpected bonds forged when humanity meets nature’s harshest winter.
