Description

In the bitter chill of an April night, 1779 drapes the countryside of Morristown, New Jersey, in ice‑slick roads and the lingering scars of recent battles. A lone Continental captain rides through the frozen mud, his horse’s hooves cracking the thin crust that covers the battlefield’s abandoned campfires and broken wagons. The landscape is stark—shivering maples, eroded fences, and a solitary elm bearing a carved heart—yet it hints at something more intimate hidden among the desolation.

The officer dismounts near a modest farmstead, his breath clouding in the frost as he waits beneath the elm’s skeletal shadow. A faint light once flickered from the house’s gable, only to vanish, leaving him to stare into the silent fields while the moon climbs over the Orange hills. In this pause, the tension of duty and a whispered promise mingle, offering a glimpse of personal longing against the harsh backdrop of war.
