SUCCESS STORY
On a December night in 1952, Jeff McKinney is dragged toward a blinding light, fighting desperately against hands he cannot resist. The scene is strange and unsettling, but Jeff’s life has already taught him plenty about pain: childhood poverty, a devastating accident, his father’s violent death, and years of loneliness that have left him guarded and deeply scarred.
Sensitive, intelligent, and unable to find a place among ordinary people, Jeff takes refuge in chemistry and music, where patterns and purpose seem safer than human emotion. Even brief moments of happiness are followed by cruelty, and his hope of finding lasting love is placed in jeopardy when his marriage to Nina begins under troubling circumstances. As the story moves between Jeff’s harsh past and the ominous events surrounding that December night, it asks whether a person can escape the life dealt to him—or whether fate has been waiting all along.
