In a near‑future Washington bureaucracy where tweed suits signal respectability, Lawrence Woolford is a rising field operative for a powerful but eccentric agency. He spends his days juggling departmental politics, an over‑bearing boss, and his own yearning for a quieter desk job, all while keeping up with the latest dress codes that separate “normal” from “weird.”
His routine shatters when the Boss slides two identical, freshly printed $50 bills across the desk and asks Woolford to spot the difference. The seemingly trivial counterfeit puzzle hints at a covert operation with international fallout, recalling the secret wartime forgeries of the past. As Woolford dives deeper, he must balance his instinct for compliance with a growing suspicion that the case may pull him far beyond the insulated halls of his department.
