Spacemen Never Die!
SPACEMEN NEVER DIE!
Henry Weller is doing well as a foreman in a futuristic humandroid factory, but success has not made him immune to jealousy. His wife, Phoebe, still proudly displays a larger-than-life image of her first husband, celebrated space explorer Don Manton, whose adventures—and memory—seem to occupy more room in their home than Henry does.
When Henry’s attempts to remove the picture end in a marital ultimatum, he leaves for the refuge of his club and a few too many futuristic drinks. There, former spaceman Speed Roggs offers a startlingly different view of Don Manton, Phoebe, and the supposedly glamorous life of an interplanetary hero. As Henry begins to question what he knows about the past, domestic resentment opens the door to a lively science-fiction mystery filled with eccentric technology, spacefaring legends, and wry observations about love, fame, and human—and possibly humandroid—feelings.

A versatile American storyteller, Morris Hershman moved easily between science fiction, mystery, gothic suspense, and western fiction. His best-known science-fiction novel, Shareworld—later reissued as The Crash of 2086—imagines a world where the stock market dominates society and catastrophe looms.
