A weary Juhani, the head of the remote Saaren estate, steps back into the main house after a morning of burial ceremonies that have left him hollow. The quiet rooms feel heavy with loss, and the servants watch him with a mix of curiosity and unease as he settles into the familiar yet suddenly alien surroundings. While the sun climbs, his thoughts turn to the future of the farm and the small circles of people who now fill its halls.
His only daughter, Helmi, has retreated into a solemn hush, drifting away from music and play, a change that unsettles him more than any external threat. The arrival of a new laborer, the quiet and dutiful Nikolai, brings a fresh rhythm to the daily toil, yet Juhani cannot shake the lingering doubts that swirl around his family’s shifting dynamics. As the day wears on, the estate hums with a restless anticipation, hinting at the hidden tensions that may soon surface.
