ROAD STOP
On a nearly deserted highway, Sam keeps watch at Rest Stop 25, a bright, efficient way station where machines handle almost everything. Cars drive themselves, kitchens prepare meals automatically, and repairs happen behind sealed doors with little need for human hands. To Sam, the convenience has come at a cost: people have forgotten how to make, drive, and even understand the things that shape their lives.
Then word arrives that a particular car may be heading his way—one that has passed before, and does not always continue down the road. As an ordinary sedan pulls in for a routine repair, Sam tries to calm a nervous couple and dismiss his own unease. But the silent garage, the empty highway, and the approaching possibility of that mysterious vehicle turn an uneventful afternoon into something far more unsettling. This atmospheric science-fiction story explores dependence on automation, nostalgia for a more human world, and the fear of machinery that may no longer need its creators.
