Description

Set against the sweeping purple sage of southern Utah in 1871, the story follows Jane Withersteen, a determined young woman who inherited a vast ranch, a clear spring, and a tight‑knit community of cottonwoods and cattle. Her life of quiet stewardship is shadowed by growing tension between the local Mormon settlers and an influx of Gentile newcomers, while rumors of rustlers and secret meetings stir unease. As she tends to her land and her people, Jane must balance her deep faith with a fierce loyalty to anyone in need, even those the church looks upon with suspicion.

The arrival of a mysterious masked rider, rumored to be a feared outlaw, plunges the quiet valley into a sudden storm of danger and intrigue. Jane finds herself drawn into a clash of loyalties as she confronts both the law‑bound elders and the shadowy figures haunting the sage‑covered passes. Amid gunfire, whispered conspiracies, and the stark beauty of the high desert, she must decide what she is willing to risk to protect her home and the fragile peace of Cottonwoods.
