Resurrection
resurrection
In a far-reaching future, medicine has advanced beyond healing the living or regrowing lost limbs. Scientists have discovered how to restore the dead—and, using the physical memory preserved in even the smallest fragment of an organism, reconstruct people from the distant past. With intergalactic travel providing seemingly limitless room, humanity has brought every human being who ever lived back into existence.
Among these resurrected figures is a bewildered man from ancient Earth, suddenly confronted with robots, alien worlds, two suns, unfamiliar customs, and a history that has continued without him for thousands of years. As he struggles to understand the astonishing age that has revived him, a curious young woman asks him to tell his story. This witty, imaginative short science-fiction tale explores identity, memory, culture shock, and the consequences of solving death without first asking what the living will do with everyone who returns.
