Reluctant Genius
RELUCTANT GENIUS
Two incorporeal beings drift through Earth’s atmosphere, exploring its flowers, hills, and lakes while observing the slow progress of humanity. Laloi is enchanted by the planet’s warmth and beauty, but Buos remains focused on their urgent mission: Earth’s people must develop the science needed to save a distant, dying world before it is too late.
Their hopes rest on a solitary human thinker whose understanding reaches beyond his time. He can imagine tomorrow and grasp the foundations of matter, light, and energy, yet his ideas remain trapped inside his mind, lacking the force to become action. As Laloi and Buos debate whether humanity will ever advance quickly enough, they decide to interfere—not through visible miracles, but through the faintest nudges of nature.
Blending cosmic stakes with a playful, philosophical view of human potential, this story asks how genius begins, what inspires discovery, and whether an invisible influence can awaken one remarkable mind.
