Description

A bright‑eyed orphan named Pollyanna arrives at the grand Harrington estate, summoned by a distant relative she has never met. The house is run with rigid precision; Miss Polly, the austere matriarch, and her diligent maid Nancy maintain a strict order that leaves little room for frivolity. As Pollyanna steps into the quiet kitchen and the dusty attic, her natural optimism and willingness to listen immediately set her apart from the solemn household.

Her infectious “glad game,” a simple habit of finding something to be thankful for in every situation, begins to ripple through the stiff corridors. Even the stern Miss Polly and weary Nancy find themselves pausing, intrigued by this newcomer’s fearless cheer. As Pollyanna settles into her new surroundings, listeners are invited to watch how her sunny disposition gently challenges the expectations of a family accustomed to restraint, promising both tender moments and subtle transformations.

Eleanor H. (Eleanor Hodgman) Porter

1868–1920

Best known for creating Pollyanna, she wrote stories whose cheerfulness and emotional warmth made her one of the most popular American novelists of her day. Before turning to fiction, she trained seriously as a singer, and that sense of feeling and performance carries through her work.
