Description

In the sweltering spring of a Southern farming frontier, a weary planter arrives by train at the sleepy town of Darley, his mind full of fresh acreage and the pull of home. He steps into the bustling Johnston House, where the crisp greetings of Jim Thornton and the weary wisdom of the aging merchant Tom Mayhew paint a vivid portrait of a community stitched together by hard work and rumor. Amid the clatter of bags and the scent of fresh earth, the planter learns he will be whisked away by the notorious Pole Baker—a larger‑than‑life figure famed for his daring exploits, moon‑shining past, and fierce loyalty to friends and family.

Pole’s reputation roars through the town like a midnight thunderstorm, his legend built on brawls, daring rescues, and a penchant for both trouble and redemption. As the newcomer prepares for the journey ahead, listeners are invited into a world where honor is measured by a man’s grip on a horse’s reins and the quiet reverence he shows those he loves, setting the stage for a tale of rugged camaraderie and the clash between past wildness and the promise of a settled life.
