OLYMPIA
Set in the elegant salon of an Austrian spa hotel just before the war, the play opens with a glittering birthday celebration for an imperial favorite. Amid the soft strains of a waltz, countess Lina slips in to confront her cousin Albert about a scandal that threatens the family's reputation: their young princess, Olympia, has been seen sharing flirtatious moments with the bold Hungarian hussar captain Kovács. Their sharp, rapid‑fire dialogue cracks jokes about lineage, honor, and the absurdities of aristocratic etiquette, establishing a lively clash of personalities that fuels the comedy.
The first act introduces a colorful cast—Prince Plata‑Ettingen, his wife, the innocent‑looking Olympia, and the mischievous Lina—each caught in a web of expectation and desire. As secrets begin to surface, the characters juggle duty and passion, setting the stage for a humorous battle of wits that will ripple through the ensuing acts, all while the spa’s tranquil façade masks the swirling tensions beneath.
