Description

The story opens with a sweeping tour of a continent’s most leeward region, a patchwork of ten provinces each defined by its own climate, resources, and history. From the sugar‑rich lowlands of Santa Barbara and the iron‑streaked hills of Meruel, to the coal‑laden Redemption and the untouched forested Sierras, the landscape feels both familiar and exotic. The narrator sketches the legacy of conquest, the rise of colonial towns, and the lingering presence of the original Carib peoples. This rich geography sets the stage for the tensions that simmer beneath the surface.

Into this backdrop steps a young man from Meruel, whose family’s fortunes were bound up in the historic “Redemption War” that linked iron to coal. As he ventures toward the uncharted mountain provinces, he confronts rival ambitions, lingering colonial grudges, and the mysterious illnesses that keep the forest provinces largely uninhabited. Listeners will be drawn into his quest to map the unknown and to uncover the fragile balance between progress and the lingering shadows of the past.
