A young wanderer, once a knight, now cruises the quiet Surrey lanes in a freshly polished car, his mind untethered and his heart oddly light. The countryside stretches in soft May sunlight, fields and pines whispering as he steers without destination. Suddenly, the gentle hum of his engine is pierced by the roar of a motorcycle and a cloud of dust.
From the roadside he watches a fierce confrontation: a burly rider shoves a small girl, his voice booming, his movements brutal. The girl’s bright blue hat flies from her head as she pleads, her voice trembling with desperation. The scene unfolds in a heartbeat, leaving the rider’s motives and the girl’s fate uncertain.
Compelled by a flicker of old‑world chivalry, the lone driver pulls over, the car’s door sighing open. He steps into the dust‑caked grass, eyes meeting the frightened child’s, and wonders whether he can intervene. The encounter promises to pull him into a tangled web of danger and compassion that will test the values he once held dear.
