Description

A warm May day in 1812 finds Prussia cloaked in both blooming life and deep sorrow. King Frederick William wanders the gardens of Charlottenburg, where his beloved queen lies in a newly built mausoleum, turning the once‑joyful palace into a silent tomb. The king’s grief is matched by the weight of Napoleon’s expanding tyranny, which has reduced the once‑proud monarch to a figure of reluctant submission. Amid the tender spring scenery, the uneasy peace feels fragile, as the distant drums of war grow louder.

Into this atmosphere of loss and tension strides the indomitable Field Marshal Blücher, whose fierce loyalty to Prussia clashes with the political machinations of Hardenberg and other conspirators. Their reluctant alliance hints at a brewing resistance against the French emperor’s relentless demands. As personal tragedies intertwine with grand strategy, the novel paints a vivid portrait of a nation on the brink, where honor, duty, and hope must contend with the shadow of conquest.
