His friend and confidant, the philosophical Radding, teases him about the three “classes” of lovers while Caleb vows to write a novel that proves a sane courtship can be just as compelling.

When a mysterious, handwritten love poem slips into Caleb’s inbox, his skepticism is tested. The verses hint at an unknown admirer and a promise of devotion that feels both earnest and oddly familiar. Intrigued and unsettled, Caleb sets off for a writer’s retreat in the hills, intent on turning his rational blueprint into a story—while the anonymous verses linger, challenging his belief that love is merely a calculated arrangement.
