Description

The story opens on an ominous October morning, where a restless sea and a sickly green sky foretell trouble. Hugh, a young coxswain, watches the looming storm from his family home, his mother’s frail warning echoing a dream of disaster. The quiet of the empty bay contrasts with the restless pull of the tide, hinting at the dangerous work that keeps the local lifeboat, the Janet, ready for any sudden call.

As Hugh goes about his day, we glimpse the roots of his maritime life—a father who once invested in ships, a community bound to the water, and a quiet determination to steer through the unknown. Soon, his routine will be interrupted by a fierce gale that drives the lifeboat into the storm, and by a young Danish woman whose presence promises both challenge and affection. The early chapters set a vivid, atmospheric stage for courage, duty, and the stirrings of an unexpected romance.
