In a wind‑swept Martian outpost, a grim auction of a notorious loot has drawn scavengers from distant moons and ruthless adventurers from uncharted asteroids. When the bodies of escaped prisoners arrive—twisted, half‑frozen remnants of a failed escape—the police detective Grannar and his uneasy partner Torry are forced to confront the lingering mystery of Bart Roper, the criminal who may have slipped the prison moon of Phobos. Their uneasy alliance is set against a stark, dust‑choked landscape where death leaves no scent, and every corpse tells a story of desperation.
As they haul the grotesque remains back to the city, the pair must untangle a web of betrayal, hidden motives, and a code‑transmitter that could be Roper’s lifeline. Torry’s bitter knowledge of the outlaw and Grannar’s hard‑won procedural instincts clash, propelling them into a chase that could span the thin Martian atmosphere and the dark reaches beyond. With each revelation, the hunt for Roper becomes as much about personal redemption as it is about stopping a ghost who might still be circling the planet.
