Description

A fierce summer storm in the late 1790s leaves the cargo brig “Sirkassian” shattered in the remote Biskajan Bay. The wreck has taken most of the crew, but three desperate souls – a weary sailor, a tormented mother, and her fragile infant – cling to the battered hull, fighting cold, hunger and the relentless surf. Their uneasy alliance reveals the harsh social hierarchies of the age, as the woman and child, once taken from Africa, endure both the sea’s cruelty and the lingering shadows of their past.

As the tempest finally eases, the trio spots a sliver of sunrise breaking through the clouds, hinting at possible rescue and a new direction. With limited supplies and dwindling hope, they must decide whether to trust the uncertain horizon or succumb to the sea’s unforgiving grip. The opening chapter sets a tense, intimate portrait of survival, loyalty, and the thin line between despair and perseverance.
