Description

The opening scene settles listeners on the banks of the Danube, where the sun slides behind Buda’s violet hills and the city’s black‑and‑gold domes glitter like distant sentinels. A gentle breeze carries the chatter of Magyar ladies on balconies and the low hum of river traffic, setting a tone of quiet wonder that beckons the traveler onward. From this bustling lowland the narrative gently lifts, hinting at the rope‑suspended bridge that will soon carry the party across to the ancient streets of Pest and beyond.

Soon the guide leads the party into the rugged highlands, where shepherds tend their flocks beside crystal‑clear wells and the air carries the echo of gypsy music. Along the way, listeners meet sturdy peasants, hear tales of “goblins of the mist,” and glimpse the stark beauty of ice‑caves that carve the mountainside. The first volume balances vivid landscape sketches with lively cultural snapshots, promising a rich auditory tour of Hungary’s plains, valleys, and towering peaks.
