Description

A lively portrait of Victorian school life opens the tale, where the weekly “walk” forces boys and girls into an awkward parade that quickly turns into a battlefield of teasing, pride, and hidden yearning. The head boy, Matey Weyburn, rules the playground with a mix of athletic zeal and academic rigor, pushing his comrades to toughen up while dismissing the presence of the girls as a nuisance. Yet beneath his stern exterior, subtle hints of curiosity surface, especially when a striking pupil named Browny catches his eye, stirring a tentative shift in his usually dismissive attitude toward the opposite sex.

Through witty observation and sharp dialogue, the narrative captures the clash between youthful bravado and the stirrings of first affection, all set against the strict routines of a boys’ school. As the characters navigate the rituals of sport, study, and social expectation, listeners are invited into a world where every glance and whispered remark may herald the first tremors of love, even as the boys cling to their hardened façades.
