Description

A sprawling spring gathering unfolds on a leafy hill, where dozens of villagers, warriors and women in vivid folk dress converge around a sacred clearing. The air crackles with shouts, the clatter of spears, and the frantic pursuit of a flying kiirikka, a symbol of power that the young men hurl with reckless bravado. In the midst of the chaos, the charismatic leader Urmas rallies his followers while tension simmers between the resident families and the roaming Mervi clans.

Against this turbulent backdrop, the story introduces a cast of vivid characters—Urmas’ fierce wife Heljä, the orphaned mother Orpa, and the mysterious poet Flöide—each carrying their own hopes and hidden grievances. As the ceremonial games turn into a fierce contest of strength, the community is forced to confront ancient rivalries and the looming threat of a larger, oppressive force. The early act sets the stage for a struggle that mixes mythic ritual with very human ambition, inviting listeners into a world where dreams of freedom clash with harsh realities.
