Description

Two curious travelers from the distant world of Capella drift into the neon‑splashed outskirts of a tiny American town that bills itself “the cheeriest little town in America.” Their onboard translator quickly reads a flood of welcoming signs, promising friendship, gambling, and endless smiles, while the aliens debate whether “fraternizing” is the true meaning of the town’s most persistent invitation. With cautious optimism, they set foot on the highway, ready to meet a people whose hospitality seems as bright as the flashing jukebox lights.

Inside the local bar, Okie’s Oasis, the Capellans find themselves surrounded by clanking slot machines and a grizzled driver who greets them with a boisterous “Howdy, strangers!” Their metallic suits draw a few curious glances, but the duo relies on their crypterpreter and tentative spoken English to navigate the quirky customs of small‑town life. The story unfolds as a light‑hearted, gently satirical look at first contact, where alien logic meets the exuberant, sometimes baffling charm of mid‑century America.
