Description

Grace Perivale returns to the imposing mansion in Grosvenor Square after the sudden death of her beloved husband, Sir Hector. Though she now commands a fortune secured in coalfields and a stately home on the Scottish border, the grandeur feels hollow—rooms echo with silence, and the absence of children or close relatives leaves her adrift in a world of wealth she never imagined. Seeking solace, she splits her time between the cold English estate and a sun‑kissed villa on the Italian Riviera, where fragrant gardens and the sea offer a brief escape from her melancholy.

In this first act, Grace’s yearning for purpose collides with the expectations of high society and the lingering shadows of her late husband’s life. As she navigates the dichotomy of opulent isolation and the lure of a carefree Mediterranean retreat, she confronts a secret longing that threatens to upend the careful balance of her new existence. The story unfolds as a delicate study of grief, privilege, and the quiet temptations that stir beneath polished surfaces.
