Description

The story follows a young nobleman whose early years are marked by sudden loss and shifting loyalties. After a family tragedy leaves him orphaned at the imposing Castlewood estate, he is placed under the care of a Roman‑Catholic priest, an upbringing that colors his view of duty and faith. As political conspiracies swirl around the restoration of King James II, he finds himself tangled in secret plots, betrayals, and the harsh realities of a house divided.

Escaping the turbulence of his childhood, he travels to Cambridge, hoping the university will offer a fresh start. Yet the halls of learning bring their own disappointments, and his restless spirit drives him back to the familiar grounds of Castlewood, where new family intrigues await. Through vivid historical detail and a keen eye for personal struggle, the novel paints a portrait of a man navigating the clash between private ambition and the sweeping forces of 17th‑century England.
